Kathy is the Manager of Networking Research within PSC's Advanced Networking group where she pursues her research interests in high performance computer networking, network performance measurement and analysis, and new networking technologies. Kathy is responsible for leading funding proposal development and guiding the direction of networking research. She provides network performance and data movement consulting for PSC internal staff projects and PSC external user inquiries. She joined PSC in 1987, focusing on hardware systems support, and transitioned to networking in 1999. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Current projects

  • Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) Data Transfer Services
    • Manage XSEDE's perfSONAR network measurement and monitoring infrastructure
    • Identify and work with DTS team to resolve network throughput problems
    • Provide user support and consulting for wide area network data transfer
  • NSF Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (Trusted CI) team
    • PSC Site Lead
    • Large Facilities Security Team coordinator
    • Reporting lead for Trusted CI's Cybersecurity Summit for Large Facilities and Cyberinfrastructure
  • Network performance lead for PSC's Biomedical research team
    • Projects comprise NIH's Brain Image Library (BIL) and HuBMAP HIVE
    • Responsible for testing network throughput between collaborating sites and making recommendations for enhancing data transfer performance
    • Developing a data archiving solution for BIL
