Project Title:     Scientific Software Management and Deployment

Yang Wang, Sr. Computational Scientist
Roberto Gomez, Sr. Computational Scientist

One of the major challenges in application software deployment is its dependency on the computing system environment, which varies from platform to platform and can make software installation and management a complicated and tedious process. For this internship position, the student is required to learn how to use Docker as a software deployment tool for producing software container images which are allowed to run quickly and reliably from one computing environment to another. The student will also learn how to use Spack as a software management tool to support multiple versions and configurations of software on a variety of platforms and environments. The student will then apply Docker and Spack to the deployment and management of a few selected scientific software packages.
