Reported in Prestigious Nature Journal, PSC/Pitt Collaboration Will Support 3D Studies of the Brain by Scientists Across the Country and World
In a prestigious Nature journal, scientists at PSC and Pitt have described progress in the Brain Image Library (BIL), a centralized repository for microscopic images and other data surrounding brain structure. The Nov. 11, 2024 report in Nature Scientific Data for the first time formally charts BIL’s advancement as part of the BRAIN Initiative Cell Census Network (BICCN), helping scientists across the country and the world wrangle thousands of 3D image datasets of whole brain structures at the microscopic level. The BIL ecosystem will allow investigators to meaningfully access and study these vast data without the need to download, allowing researchers with modest computer resources to make new discoveries based on the data already in the system, as well as to add new data.
